The Winter Hawks this week named Matt Bardsley as Director of Player Personnel. The press release touted Bardsley’s role in recruiting Dubinsky and Gaustad and “discovering” Chris Francis and Aaron McGill. It went on to tout Bardsley’s scouting record up and down the west coast.
That’s freaking great. The guy has “discovered” a grand total of 11 points for the Hawks this season. And he’s going to go beat the bushes for even more. Woo hoo!
Here’s a fun question: What became of Jack Donovan’s great pipeline of talent from Dallas TX? Does anyone else remember him putting on the hockey helmet at Claudia’s back in 2006 and telling us he was going to use his contacts to bring great players in from Texas? 18 months after the grand pronouncement, how many players on the protected list hail from the Lone Star State? I’ll go ahead and set the over-under line at 1/2. I’ll take the under.
How goes Canadian scouting? Where were the Hawks on Casey Pierro-Zabotel, Evan Pighin, Jamie Benn, Todd Kennedy, Garry Nunn, and Matt Cumming? Is there any other talent in the BCHL who might be worth a look? The SJHL? Anyone? I can’t believe there aren’t Junior A players available today who couldn’t make an impact on this roster. But no. we’re going to head back down to Vegas and LA and try and find the next Cepek. I don’t get it.
So whatever, J2. You two keep trying to reinvent the wheel while dwindling numbers of fans watch another season go up in smoke.

you are so right on about that…. whatever happened to Michael Burns 16 yr old who attended the hawks pre-season camp in august-september. did the Hawks sign him no they let him go, he is immediatly signed by the edmonton oil kings where he made his debut sunday and had an assist he was also named to team pacific meaning some people think he is one of the best 8 16 yr old forwards in all of Alberta, where was Bardsley at then oh thats right chasing down and signing aaron mcgill, give me a break.
